3 Fall Trends to Rock Right Now!

I’m so excited that I’m getting a little taste of Fall this week! It’s been 3 months since I moved to LA and I’m finally getting to come back home for a visit. It feels amazing to be back in NY, even though I’m only here for a week for some friend/family time and a wedding. I’ve been spending as much time as possible soaking up the energy that only NY has, and getting to break out some of my fave Fall fashion trends. It’s still a bit too warm in LA to rock leather, sweaters and the like, so I’m enjoying my good old east coast Fall fashion while I can. Here are some of the looks in my rotation this week!

Black never goes out of style. I have so many black pieces I love, and when packing for this trip I found myself digging up a lot of them. Call it the New York girl’s staple, but it’s classic, stylish cool, and easy to wear. I’ll be playing with velvet skinnies and leather skirts paired with sexy pumps or chunky boots. And of course, dramatic sweaters with fun detailing!

Velvet Statement Dresses

I have a weakness for velvet and it’s so hard to pull off in hot weather. Luckily, it’s just cool enough  for me to get some wear out of my stylish velvet dresses. I love the material on solid fabrics as much as on prints. For now, I’m still pulling off bare legs, but this look will work just as well with semi-sheer tights. Plus it’s perfect for dressing up for a Fall wedding or date night.

Slip Dresses Styled for Fall

Slip dresses were pretty much my go to this summer, so I’m playing with ways to transition them for Fall. When layered with a stylish knit and pumps or booties, they work perfectly for cooler seasons. I’m putting away my pastels and prints from summer, and sticking to classic dark shades, jewel tones and neutrals.

Nail the Trend! How to Rock Head to Toe Velvet

Who has a crush on velvet?

Me, obviously! I can't get enough of the lush fabric, especially when it comes in a lush jewel tone. I got an amazing burgundy velvet jumpsuit from Pretty Little Thing a few weeks ago and have been scouting and shopping for more since then!

I was instantly obsessed with this velvet suit from Zara. Talk about a winning combo! There is something soft and drapey about the pants and jacket, lending a sophisticated pajama vibe to the look. I styled it with a statement belt instead of the coordinating sash that came with the jacket. It adds a little bit of a boss lady feel to the finished look. You could layer a stylish bralette underneath the jacket and let it peek out a bit, or just wrap it tight and go like I did! Just don't forget to add heels!

If a full body velvet look is too much for your taste, you can always style the pieces separately. The jacket would look fab with jeans or a simple black dress,  and you can easily pair the pants with a cozy knit sweater or classic white blouse. Velvet mini skirts or dresses are also adorable with tights and flat loafers. Shop this look and some of my favorite velvet pieces below!

Nomo Soho Rooftop Fall

Can you believe it’s about to be October! I feel like summer just flashed by and now before you know it we’ll be putting up the Christmas tree and wrapping presents! Even though I wish summer 18 never would have ended, I have to admit Fall has its charm. The stunning colored leaves, crisp air, and of course the fashion. Fall dressing means you can get a little more serious and a little more dressed up, and pull out luxe fabrics and standout knits. I mean does anything really beat the perfect knit sweater??? This one is from one of my favorite Instagram brands – Mum’s Handmade.

One look at their feed full of incredibly stylish women in all eyes on me chunky knits and you will be obsessed. My first one was a pretty pink cardigan that I splurged on after getting a nice bonus last year, and it still looks just as amazing as it did the first day I got it. Then when they had a sale over the summer, I decided to grab one of their knit sweater dresses in classic black. They rarely discount so I jumped at the chance to get one on sale, and it’s finally chilly enough for me to actually wear it! And when it cools off even more I can rock it with tights or jeans to give me legs some coverage.

What are you most excited about for Fall?

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Haul!

Colgate Portrait 4.jpg

It's every fashion blogger's favorite time of year - the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! The annual sale is a great time to stock up on key pieces for Fall at great prices, before they go up in August. It's hard to think about sweaters and coats now, but if there are things you see that you love, click add to cart while you can! Sale inventory moves fast and the prices on whatever's left go up pretty sharrply after the sale is over. Here is everything on my list! I'm trying to be more financially responsible this year, so being more careful about spending, so I really shouldn't get EVERYTHING I want. But I will be thinking of things that can last multiple seasons, add some dynamite to my Fall wardrobe, and have the potential to be in heavy rotation.

Coats

I love a statement coat and they are becoming even more important since winter seems to last forever these days! From 70's inspired patent leather and leopard to cozy, classic, and white, I'm loving all of these and trying to narrow down which one or 2 I'll be buying!

Skirts, Dresses & Jumpsuits

As you can see, I'm still feeling patent! And the 70's vibe! But I seriously love pajama inspired stripes and bold florals for Fall. Plus velvet is always a hit for the season!

Shoes & Accessories

I didn't see too many handbags I love, but plenty of shoes and classic accessories! I'm not really a hat person, but am living for this velvet cabbie hat, and the boots and booties in stock are all so good!

Let me know what you guys end up buying in the comments, and how you plan to style them for Fall! I've gotta start narrowing down my list before my babies sell out!

3 Must Have Tips for the Last Minute Halloween Shopper

Belle Beauty and the Beast Halloween Costume.png

Halloween weekend is here! Since I clearly love dressing up in my daily life, you can pretty much guess that Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. Fall is in full swing, the air is crisp and days shorter, and there is so much inspiration and creativity going around. I had my costumes planned for sometime, when I found 2 amazing dresses at L-Train Vintage.  When I saw this yellow ball gown the answer was obvious!

Belle Beauty and the Beast Halloween Costume 2.png

The Beauty & The Beast movie was one of the buzziest this year, so the costume choice was natural. But if you were dragging your feet and are stuck on a costume idea, here are a few tips to help you figure one out by Tuesday!

Hit Up Your Local Vintage Stores

They are a treasure chest of goodies, from 80’s dresses, 90’s style looks and fun, funky and weird items. The dresses I found were probably old bridesmaid or prom dresses, but they work! My unicorn look last year started with a vintage satin and tulle dress that was just $12. Spend the weekend digging around for something to base your costume on, and then figure out makeup and accessories.

See What’s on Amazon Prime

There are over 40K results for costumes available under Prime Free One Day Shipping. Get to browsing! You can pull together a look and have it at your doorstep in no time, without the stress of last minute shopping at overcrowded, picked over Halloween costume shops.

Recycle an Old Look

My unicorn look from last year can easily be turned into several other costumes, like ballerina, bride, or fairy. Think about old costumes or dresses that can be used again in a new creative way. Glitzy old prom or bridesmaid dress  -- Diana Ross or a 60’s starlet.  Black mini dress and tights – grab some ears and be an animal of your choice, or braided pigtails and be Wednesday Adams. Think creatively and work with what you’ve got!

And no matter how rushed you get, try to avoid culturally inappropriate costumes! If someone’s race or nationality is the base for the costume in question, just don’t do it!

Happy Halloween!

New Season, New Boots

Boot season is about to kick off ya’ll!

I know I’ve had a hard time letting go of summer, but I’m trying to move on and get excited about the new season. One of the best ways to do that is shopping, especially for shoes obvi. Nothing screams Fall like new boots, and one boot trend I’m loving right now is over the knee boots. Since I’m not giving up dresses and can’t even deal with shopping for tights right now, they are going to be my go-to style for the next few weeks.

IMG_8052.jpg

A stylish over the knee boot just makes getting dressed pretty much a no-brainer. Throw them on and then just add a cute dress, like this one from Material Girl and you’re done! You can also style them with leggings and an oversized sweater. Denim boots, like these Steve Madden’s, are perfect because you can rock them with anything. Just treat them like you would your favorite pair of skinny jeans.  I’m also super into nude over the knee boots. They are versatile, give the look and feel of bare legs, but have a seasonally appropriate twist.

Check out my fave OTK boots for Fall, including the boot I’m wearing above and the Saint Laurent crystal studded ones that were EVERYWHERE during Fashion Week! Even though the weather isn’t typical for late Sept/early Oct, add to cart now so you’ll have these delivered before temps start to drop next week! And let me know your favorite ways to wear them!

How to Take Your Summer Colors into Fall

Who else is loving September so far? Even though we've got a few more days before Fall is officially here, we are all basically operating like the season is in full swing. Halloween decor has been out for weeks, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and store shelves are full off thick sweaters and warm coats. Even though the mood is settling in, the weather is still hinting at summer, with temps in the high 70’s/low 80’s some days! With weather like that how are you supposed to be inspired to edit your wardrobe!  If you are still dragging your feet on transitioning your wardrobe, you are not alone. I've been struggling to let go of some of my summer favorites, and playing with ways to style them to get a bit more wear over the next few weeks.

One thing I've been holding onto dearly is my bright colors! The Fall color palette is decidedly darker and moodier, and I'm just not quite ready to make the switch! I live in bold saturated hues all summer, and really want to keep it popping while I still can.

If you are still holding onto bold and bright colors like I am, here are my picks for Fall ready pieces that still have the summer color vibe.  Buy now and wear while you still can, and you can always pop these babies out come next summer!

Here's to a few more weeks of summer inspired style!

4 Reasons Every New Yorker Should Go to the Poconos

Lake Harmony Poconos.JPG

This post is bought to you in collaboration with Martz Trailways and the Poconos Mountains Visitor's Bureau.

I'm just back from a weekend of R&R, cooling my heels with friends and family in the Poconos! My family has been coming to the region since we were kids, and it's always a blast. Whether you are into adventure travel or just looking for some downtime in the woods, the Poconos has it all. Check out my top reasons New Yorkers should go to the Poconos!

Poconos Mountains Lake Harmony.jpeg

It's Closer than you think

The Hamptons are great in summer, but easily 3-4 hours away. New Yorkers also love hitting up the Catskills, another 3 hour trek from the city. The Poconos is about 2 hours away and has amazing mountains and lakes in the region that are perfect for a quick escape. If you don't have or don't want to rent a car, you can easily get there from Port Authority on the Martz Trailways Bus. The bus is fast, comfortable, and reliable, with free wifi for you to stay connected. The Blakeslee stop was closest to where we were staying, so if you find yourself there, make sure you check out the amazing candy bar at Harmony Beverage and the Peppers & More BBQ Food Truck in the parking lot!
Split Rock Poconos Hiking

There are plenty of activities

Depending on the time of year, you go, the options are plentiful. Skiing and snowboarding in winter, hiking in fall, kayaking or swimming in the summer. You can even do a boat tour across the stunning Lake Harmony.  We stayed at Split Rock Resort, and that property has everything from an indoor water park to an arcade and bowling alley!

Doing nothing is a welcome option

City folk tend to get caught up in the grind of staying busy and jam-packing their days. If you just want a quiet, cozy place to escape the Poconos is a perfect option. We spent time enjoying the scenery by day, but after dinner I made time to curl up with a good book, face mask, and bottle of wine!

Broadway Grille Pub Dinner.jpeg

The food scene is surprising

Even though I've been to the Poconos many times, this trip I was pretty impressed by the food! We had an amazing dinner at Broadway Grille in Jim Thorpe, a charming little town with Victorian vibes. The staff was friendly, service personable, and dining experience memorable. After dinner we wandered across the street to an adorable ice cream shop with a yummy selection of homemade ice cream. The hardest part was choosing a flavor and trying to figure out how to get a pint back to NY! Next time we will be bringing  a cooler bag for sure!

The 8 Beauty Must-Haves You Need for Fall!

It's about the time of year when this beauty junkie needs some product refreshing!

I'm pretty much doing my best when it comes to summer beauty - keeping my face on, managing the sweat and humidity, and keeping the frizz at bay. This season is a challenging one and I'm really getting over it! But I can't help but be excited about some of the Fall beauty trends and colors I'm starting to see teasers of online.

Here are a few of the products I'm super excited to try and staples I'll be restocking!

NYFW Edit: Look 3

Fashion week is almost over. It's been equal parts amazing and exhausting, and I'm absolutely living for some of the trends I've seen popping up all over the runways. For one of my last days around Skylight Clarkson Square, I decided to layer this amazing, slinky black knit dress with a drapey grey sleeveless jacket. Can you believe I actually found this gorgeous jacket at Mandee on a random pop in to the mall last week? I almost fell over when I saw it on display. The fabric is obviously synthetic, but it looks and feels like a lightweight wool, and the proportions perfectly hit the volume trend that is so hot for Fall.
