When Sparkle Meets Sporty

Images by Ashley Lee Photo

Some days I can’t decide if I want to be sporty or glam. My days can often have me running between work, meetings, photo shoots and time with friends so, versatility is often key. I have been playing around with combining different wardrobe elements both to challenge by style and to find new ways to wear old favorites. You guys already know I love breaking out party dresses for day, so that became the base of this look.

Sparkles Hoodie Moto Jacket Layering Look

This sequined body con dress is an eye-catcher. It screams cocktail party or semi-formal dinner. I especially love the thick fabric and 3-quarter sleeves because it’s perfect for March when the weather gets weird. Since it’s too cute to leave in the back of the closet for the occasional formal or event, I decided to try styling it for a cool and sexy day look.

I started with just the leather jacket and moto boots for a bit of biker edge, but it still felt like a layer was missing. Enter my old college hoodie that I pulled out of one of my storage bins. It was oversized, faded grey and the perfect complement to the fancy dress.

This combination of textures – the smooth quilted leather, raised sequins on the dress, and calf-hair on the bag adds a ton of extra visual interest to the look. Fun with texture is becoming one of my favorite ways to spice up a look. Even if you are going monochromatic with the color scheme, layering textures just adds something special. However because there was so much going on with the dress and the different textures, I kept my jewelry simple to let the other pieces shine.
