24 Unique Christmas Gifts Everyone on Your List Will Love!

Are you guys ready for Christmas!

I can’t believe Christmas is just a few weeks away, and the end of 2022 will be coming just behind it. Since I’ve spent so much time traveling this year, I am really looking forward to a lazy, cozy holiday season at home with my friends and family.

This year has been a challenging one for a lot of reasons, and we are all feeling the pinch am I right? Inflation is at an all time high, supply chain issues are impacting availability of goods, and interest rates have sky rocketed, meaning you really should be avoiding credit card debt now more than ever. The holiday season can often be stressful in a lot of ways, and this massive pile-up of social issues is only adding fuel to the fire.

I am definitely keeping my gift giving list tight this year, so I have spent a lot of time scouring the internet for affordable but eye catching items for everyone on my list. I decided to share a few of my favorite finds with you, hopefully to ease the pain of all that browsing! So here are over 20 holiday gift ideas for everyone on your list, at a wide range of price points! Keep reading for my 2022 Holiday Gift Guide.

2022 Holiday Gift Guide

affordable holiday gift ideas for everyone on your list

Gifts for the Frequent Traveler

I have been to over 10 countries this year, and all that time on a plane, I have had plenty of time to think of goods and gadgets that would make frequent travel all the more easy. I love this Work from Anywhere kit, which is perfect for anyone who still needs to be productive while traveling. And these black toiletry pouches can be filled up to the brim but still save so much more space than bottles.

If you have someone on the list that actually moved abroad or spends most of their time away, Homesick Candles have a scent for every city and can make even the most boring hotel room feel a bit more like home. Or if you are short ideas or missed the window for shipping in time for Christmas, just give the gift that keeps on giving - a Priority Pass membership!

Gifts for the Homebody

Help your friends and family create a cozier vibe at home with some stylish, chic, but functional home goods. Fluffy towels, a cooling pillow, or a cozy blanket can be perfect. I also have my eye on this surprisingly affordable baking set from Le Cruset, and you can’t go wrong with these Oofos Recovery Slippers that are the perfect thing to slip your feet into after a long day running around.

Gifts for the Fashionista

It is always a challenge picking out gifts for a fashion lover, but here are a few simple and elegant ideas. The viral slip dress from Skims will be a standout, as will this cozy longline cardigan that elevates even the most simple outfit.

If you haven’t heard of Brandon Blackwood, you need to familiarize yourself asap! The Black owned designer has become an it girl essential, and the bags still have some decent opening price points. And if you have run out of time or ideas or simply don’t have the desire to browse a few hundred web pages at various retailers, a Shein gift card will do the trick! Their assortment is enormous and prices rock bottom cheap, so anyone can find something they will love on that site!

Gifts for Him

Last but not least, don’t forget the guys on your list! Cufflinks are always a classic, and this cord organizer is an elegant solution for keeping your tech organized while traveling.

If he is a whisky lover, check out Man Crates for a selection of various types of gift boxes. Or help him step up his beauty game with some classic skin care or a high tech razor.

Money Moves: How to Not Go Broke This Holiday Season

Tis the season to spend money! Seriously, who else feels like time of year your wallet is just bleeding cash? Between entertaining, going out to holiday events, travel, and shopping, it’s so hard to keep your finances on track. This year I’m really being tough on my spending because I’m recovering from the cross-country move, being in between jobs, and of course wedding expenses. Even if you aren’t in my position, it can never hurt to be mindful of your spending! This year shoppers are planning to spend an average of $1,047 according to the National Retail Federation!

In the spirit of belt-tightening, I wanted to share a few ways I’m planning to keep my spending down this season so I can focus on my financial future. Stay tuned for my tips to not go broke this holiday season!

ways to save money.png

Skip the New Dress

During the holidays there are a ton of social occasions and you may feel tempted to get a new look for every event. That is going to be a huge financial strain and if you are trying to cut back that is the place to start! Shop your closet for old favorites, pick up some low-cost accessories to spice up your look, or think beyond the cocktail dress. Style your separates in a more formal way, and use hair, makeup and accessories to elevate your look. If you do happen to have a month of jam-packed events, clothing rental services like Nuuly or Rent the Runway are a great alternative to shopping traditional retail.

DIY Your Beauty

If you find yourself having regular appointments for hair, makeup, manicures etc, think about what you can do yourself before you enlist the pros. There are thousands of tutorials you can watch for free on YouTube and practice before you have to nail a look for a big event. And if you aren’t confident in your abilities, you still have options! Hair accessories are trending this year, so you can always do a slick bun and embellish it with hairclips, or pop on a chunky glitzy or velvet headband for a look that makes a statement. And you can rely on the beauty counter at most department stores or Sephora for a free makeover! Usually you’ll have to buy product or be a member of their loyalty program, so take the opportunity to pick up a gift for someone on your list.

Get Thrifty With Your Decorations

I love decorating for the holidays! I don’t go as far as a lot of other bloggers, but I like having a nice stylish Christmas tree and a few stockings. I always go for a synthetic version since it can be reused for years to come, and I keep about half of the ornaments each year. I give myself a little bit of wiggle room to style my tree based on my mood that year, and only shop for ornaments on sale! Michael’s pretty much always has stuff for 40% off and Amazon has an amazing selection of dĂ©cor pretty much at any price. You can also check out your local dollar stores for some goodies on the cheap. Give yourself a budget that makes sense and stick to that! And remember, everyone cares more about the presents that are under the tree than how the tree looks!

Do Your Shopping Online

Shopping online requires you to plan your purchases more carefully and reduces impulse shopping. When you are in a store there is product everywhere you look, and they trap you even further with lines and lines of merchandise (usually at jacked up prices) as you wait to checkout. Shopping online requires a little more planning, which is critical when you are trying to stay on a budget. Plus, you can take advantage of coupons and cash back programs to maximize your savings. Almost every site offers a discount code for signing up for emails, and you can always do a quick search for codes for that site to see what works. Just be sure to double check return policies so you don’t end up stuck with something that doesn’t fit or is lower quality than you were expecting.

 Limit Your Gift List

There can be a lot of social pressure on how many people get gifts and how much you spend, but at a certain point you have to draw the line. Establish what you can reasonably afford to spend on gifts this holiday season, making sure that number includes wrapping and shipping if need be! Then split it up accordingly.  You can also encourage friends and family to have a secret Santa or white elephant style party instead of bringing individual gifts for everyone. Everyone knows how expensive the holidays can get so no one should be surprised that you want to keep expenses down!

If you start getting discouraged or need better direction, keep a financial goal in mind that will help you stay motivated. It can be something big or small, just make sure there is a number associated with it that you can keep top of mind. It will be difficult but worth it in the end!

6 Ways to Get Ready for Valentine’s Day!

valentines day outfit ideas
Valentine's Day beauty ideas

Love is in the air!

We’re just a few weeks away from Valentine’s Day. No matter your relationship status, Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the ones you love, show them some appreciation, and eat a ton of candy! I love Valentines’ Day, and not just because I’m lucky enough to have a fiancĂ© that is a hopeless romantic. I guess I’ve always had an appreciation of the holiday and what it means – celebrating love and relationships in all their forms!  If you aren’t exactly feeling the Valentine’s Day spirit, here are a few tips to help get you in the mood.

Valentines day date ideas

Plan a Galentine’s Party

Get your girls together for some fun! You can host a chic pajama party at home, go out to a fancy dinner, or keep it casual and hit up your favorite bar. Bonus points if you promise NOT to talk about boys all night, regardless of your current dating or relationship situation. Focus on time with your friends and strengthening those female friendships!

Book a Coveted Beauty Treatment

Self-love comes first! It’s really easy to get stressed and feel pressured or anxious, especially this time of year. Treat yourself to some rest, relaxation and indulgence. If you love spa treatments, book a massage or facial that you love. If you’ve been debating trying a cosmetic procedure or new hairstyle, go ahead and treat yourself. You deserve to look and feel your best. Check out sites like Gilt City for deals, or follow salons and spas you love on Instagram for exclusive discounts in case you want to save a bit on your experience.

Volunteer for a Cause in Your Community

Show love by giving back! While charitable associations see a huge influx in volunteers around the holidays, numbers start dwindling in the weeks after. Now is a great time to show your support for a cause you stand behind. Think about a cause that will inspire you and get you engaged in your community. It’s normal to feel a little bit of Valentine’s Day dread. Keeping yourself busy in a productive way that supports a cause is a great way to shake off some of that moodiness.

Set Up a Fun and Unique Date Night

If you are seriously coupled up or just casually dating, plan a fun and romantic night out! You can avoid the overpriced and overpacked restaurants and do something more creative. See a show, go to an arcade, go wine tasting, or something beyond just dinner at a local restaurant. You can also save money and avoid the crowds by going out the day before or after Valentine’s Day! Find a way to make celebrating Valentine’s Day fun, unique and special, instead of falling into the same old routine.

Enjoy Some Quality Time to Yourself

Part of self-care is giving yourself room to disconnect. If you’ve been feeling stressed, swamped and overwhelmed, you may need to indulge in some much needed me time. That can mean curling up with a good book, spending time on journaling and meditation, or lazing by a pool with a good cocktail in hand. Maybe it even means planning a quick solo trip or staycation to reset. Think about what you need to center yourself and stay inspired, and carve out time to treat yourself to that.

Freshen Up Your Wardrobe for Spring

Shopping is almost always a good idea! February is a great time to start planning your Spring shopping since most brands drop their new collections that month. Get first dibs on coveted pieces before they sell out! Plus, a lot of retailers are still having end of winter sales, so grab some goodies to save for next season.

Check out my picks for some of the Valentine’s Day looks I love!

New Years Eve Outfit Guide - What to Wear to Ring in 2020!

New Years Eve Party Dresses
What to Wear New Years Eve
Cocktail Dress Ides New Years Eve

So the year is just about over! I’m very lucky to say that 2019 has been a fantastic year for me, so I’m super exicited to celebrate it. I’m keeping my plans low-key since these wedding deposits are no joke, but I still want to dress up and have a blast. If you are looking for the perfect outfit, I rounded up some of my favorite looks to ring in the new year! I know 2019 hasn’t been great for a lot of people, but at least you can toast to the fact that you made it through and are on to bigger and better things. If 2019 hasn’t been amazing, at least your outfit for the last night of the year can be!

Party Separates and 2-Piece Sets for New Years Eve

2 piece sets started out as a trend and have pretty much become the new normal when it comes to getting dressed. There is a set for almost any occasion, so why not New Years Eve? Whether you want a tiny crop top and oversized pants, or a 70’s chic sequined fringe suit, you’re sure to find your match made in heaven! There is a great selection everywhere from Asos to Nordstrom, so you can find something at any price point! Some of the pieces below are sold together and others have separate links so you can mix sizes. When shopping you may have to browse for the matching piece if it’s not linked on the main product page.

Party Dresses for New Years Eve

You can never go wrong with a dress, so why not a playful, sexy, or sparkly one for New Years Eve? I am obsessed with the oversized bow minidress, and love the elegant blush pink draped number. If sequins aren’t your thing, a shimmery satin or crushed velvet will still feel festive and eyecatching, without being over the top. I think a mini dress with tights is more fun and playful, or go for a maxi dress for a more formal or glam occasion.

Statement Tops for New Years Eve

If you want to make a statement with your blouse these are perfect! Pair with everything from boyfriend jeans to leather joggers. The fitted styles or bustiers would even be great with wide leg palazzo pants. There are great options depending on how little or how much coverage you want, from the tiny cropped bustier to the oversized sparkly t-shirt!

Let me know where you end up celebrating the New Year and of course what you will be wearing!

Holiday Gift Guide! 10 Gifts Under $50 for the Fashionista

Holiday Gift Ideas Under $50
Holiday season fashion tips
holiday season gift guide under $50

We’re singing deck the halls!

Can you believe Christmas is just a few weeks away! My dĂ©cor has been up, complete with fake presents under the tree to make it look extra popping. I’ve been playing with holiday beauty looks, narrowing down my ideas for glam, and of course working on my gift list and wish lists! Since I’ve got a wedding to plan I’m super budget conscious these days. If you are trying to have the best holiday season possible without breaking the bank, you’ve gotta start with reducing how much you spend on gifts! Not saying turn into the Grinch, but just make sure you are keeping things in check.

If you are looking for gifts to impress at an affordable price point, check out my picks for fashion forward gifts under $50. I handpicked these items from some of my favorite It Girl websites that will get you bonus points with your friends, even though you stayed under budget.

Best Accessories to Gift Under $50

Accessories make great stocking stuffers if they are small, or can be combined into the perfect gift. Pearl barrettes have been everywhere this season and I love this set from Amazon. Super chic right?

Or go for a classic cool necklace stack or pair of earrings from It Girl fave brand Gorjana! opt for the branded gift packaging to take it up a notch. And tiny bags have blown up since Lizzo rocked one on the red carpet, and this version is super affordable and a bit more practical.

Fashionable Gifts Under $50

Picking out clothing for someone else is hard! I usually avoid gifting clothes, but fell in love with these pieces so had to throw them in. Every girl needs a slip dress and a statement one like this can be styled for multiple occasions. Cozy sweaters are a winter essential, so can’t necessarily go wrong there. And a cashmere or handmade knit from Instagram favorite brand Mum’s Handmade will definitely be appreciated! Just make sure you get a gift receipt in case they need to exchange it!

Travel and Home Gifts Under $50

Away is a cult classic brand and while a suitcase is an expensive and somewhat impractical gift, a stylish travel storage case is sure to please! The Away mini case is perfect for stashing everything from makeup to chargers when on the go, and is available in a ton of different colors. Or opt for a stylish chunky knit that only looks expensive, or an adorable silk sleep mask perfect for cozying up at home. And since every girl needs a high-end candle, you can’t go wrong with Diptyque’s classic rose scent.

Hope this helps you nail your holiday season gifting under budget! Don’t forget to take advantage of coupons for first time purchases or signing up for emails to save more. And you can leverage cash-back sites like RebatesMe or Ebates to earn money back on your purchases!

18 Holiday Beauty Gift Sets Under $50

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Makeup
Holiday Beauty Gift Ideas
Gift Ideas for Beauty Lovers

We’re getting closer and closer to the holidays! Black Friday is basically here, and most retailers have already started their sales. It really is the best time to start shopping, especially if you have a long Christmas list. Since everyone wants to give and get good gifts, but no one wants to go broke around the holidays I did some digging into affordable beauty gifts. From hair, to color cosmetics to skincare, check out the holiday gift sets I’m loving. And the best part is, almost all of these are under $50! Even though they are not super expensive, they are all from brands that are sure to impress. Plus, if you are a Sephora Beauty Insider, you can stack your points to get deluxe sized items to use as stocking stuffers. Check out some of the things that will be on my list!

Makeup Gift Sets Under $50

You guys know I love a beat face. The holidays are a great time to bring the glam so giving the gift of color cosmetics will always be appreciated. Whether your friends are makeup pros or beauty novices that need more practice, a quality lipstick or eyeshadow palette can always get some use! I’ve been using Charlotte Tilbury products for a few weeks, and they are pricey but totally worth it. Even the foundation leaves a flawless finish, I don’t recommend gifting foundation or concealer. The color match and formula have to be perfect and work with each person’s skin type and tone, so requires a lot of precision for a gift! The Hollywood Flawless Filter makes a nice alternative for face makeup, and the chic set of lipsticks in their signature cheetah will be well received.

I also just started using some Wander Beauty products since I’ve been doing a ton of travel lately. The powder is simply genius and the gold eye masks will help you look bright eyed and glowy even after a red-eye flight. These are great gifts for the frequent flyers in your life!

And you can’t go wrong with anything Fenty Beauty, but this set of their glosses will work easily with most skin tones and is a great intro to the brand for someone who’s been dying to try it.

Hair Care Gift Sets Under $50

I’ve been spending a lot more time on my natural hair lately, so always looking up new products to work into my rotation. I just got some Olapex conditioners in the VIB sale, and Verb is a new favorite of mine as well. I go for the Ghost Oil and Hairspray, but this set is perfect for someone who wants to sample their classics before committing. And Briogeo is one of my long-term go to brands for their consistent quality and super effective products. My kinky curly hair loves the Repair, Don’t Despair Line and the Superfoods collection is great, especially for those on your list that are into clean beauty. And you can’t go wrong with cool girl faves like Ouai, Drybar and dpHue!

Skin and Body Care Gift Sets Under $50

I can’t even say how crucial skin care is! Spa and salon style products can be a pretty penny, but this time of year is great for stocking up! The gift sets let you try things before committing to a full size, and the sizes are just big enough to give you a better idea of how they work than you would by just relying on a free sample. Drunk Elephant is one of my faves, and Laneige’s Lip Masks are essential when the temps drop to freezing points. And cleansing brushes can be notoriously expensive, but the Foreo Luna Play is a great price for an entry-level face brush. I keep this baby with my when I travel since it’s so lightweight and compact and it cleanses gently and thoroughly. Plus, it’s more cost effective than devices that use brush heads since you don’t need to constantly change brushes.

And don’t forget body care! If you can’t give the gift of a tropical vacay, Sol de Janeiro products are the next best thing! They smell like an island vacation and keep my skin hydrated and glowing.

holiday gift sets under $50

Let me know which ones you guys like the most and of course what is on your shopping list. And stay tuned for more of my holiday content – sales, self-care, travel and more!

3 Lessons I Learned in 2018

2018 recap and goals.jpg

It's the last day of 2018! Before I get glammed up to party the night away,  I wanted to take some time to reflect on the year, the progress I have made, and the challenges and goals I'm laying forth for myself in 2019. I've never been one for resolutions, but I am excited about some major changes on the horizon that I hope will make my life as enriched as it was in 2018. Here are some of the things I've learned and moments I'm most proud of this year.

3 Lessons Learned in 2019

I started to harness my own creativity

Being a content creator is fun, yet challenging. When I first started,  I relied heavily on professional photographers to create content,  but this year I pivoted and took most of my content creation into my own hands. I got better at composition, editing, art direction and location scouting. I'm going to plan a whole post about my new content strategy and why I work with pros less,  but right now I'm relishing in knowing that I challenged myself creatively and can get even better as I grow in 2019

I learned to reprioritize my finances,  and stick to it

I've known for awhile that I need to save more,  but more fun things always got in the way.  There was always a trip I wanted to take, a group dinner I wanted to go on, something I wanted to buy. I'm fortunate enough to be financially stable and have enough disposable income to live comfortably but I realized I was being far too comfortable and not saving enough.  My emergency fund had been steady, but not growing and my 2019 life plans will require some serious spending on things that are absolutely worth it. I spent the last few months of 2018 making sacrifices to catch up - automating more of my savings, cutting back on dinners out and saying no to A LOT of travel. It was hard but it's time to start adulting and really getting serious about saving for my future. 2019 may end up being the year of no when it comes to travel and social plans, and I'm starting to get ok with that.

I tried to be more body positive and learned it didn't work for me

My body has changed a lot the past few years but I noticed it even more in 2018. Since this was the year of body positivity, I tried to embrace being a few pounds bigger and not being perfectly toned.  The change was surely a combination of getting older, travelling more, spending time and sharing meals with the bf, and spending less money on my fancy boutique fitness classes. I went back and forth with feeling confident and insecure, dieting aggressively to drop pounds quickly, then of course putting them back on as soon as I started eating more normal. I told myself I was still in great shape and that being a little curvier for several good reasons was fine,  but I really never believed it. Some people do believe you should never worry about your looks,  but I've always thought that if you don’t like something about yourself you should change it. So I will be recommitting to the body I want to get back and taking healthy but disciplined steps to get there.

Let me know what you guys learned in 2018 and what you hope to accomplish in the year to come.  Wishing you all the happiest New Year!

2019 goal setting

3 Must Try Beauty Trends for New Years Eve

New Years Eve Beauty Trends.jpg

How is everyone recovering from Christmas? Hopefully you unwrapped lots of amazing presents and had a blast celebrating with friends and family. And now that Christmas is over, its time to focus on getting ready for New Years! I feel like everyone has mixed feelings about New Years Eve - whether it’s worth celebrating or just a waste of energy, if you should go out or do a low key house party, etc. Personally I’m down for either a glam night out or staying in with friends watching the ball drop, just depends on what the squad and bae want to do.

This year I will be doing something pretty exciting, and have the perfect look all picked out! I just need to figure out how to beat the face! Since New Year’s is a holiday where you can really go all out with your look, here are some beauty trends I’ve been thinking about trying for the last party of 2018.

BAEBY-glitter lips GIF_grande.gif

Glitter Lips Beauty Trend

Glittery eyes have been over and done! Even though they are still beautiful, the newest way to wear glitter is on the lips! Give your pout some bling with a kit from Stay Golden, the brand behind the glittery lips blowing up your Instagram feed! It may not be the best look for a dinner party, but judging from reviews you can make it through a night of drinking without losing your shine.

colorful graphic eye makeup tips.jpg

Colorful Graphic Winged Eyeliner

Winged eyeliner is such a classic look, so put a fun spin on it! Get dramatic with the length and width of your line, add a splash of color, or even play with contrasting colors to add depth and dimension. Granted, I have NEVER been able to master a good cat eye, but practice makes perfect. You can also work with stencils or tools like the Beauty Blender Liner Designer, and use concealer to clean up and even out your lines.

Rainbow Unicorn Highlighter

Colorful Highlighter

I first tried purple highlighter at Afropunk and I am sold! The look was fresh and unique, but not as scary and Halloween ish as it sounds. I’ve used a pale shimmer from Anastasia Beverly Hills and am currently loving the Fenty Beauty Killawatt Foil Freestyle Highlighter in all colors but especially Mimosa Sunrise/Sangria Sunset.

Let me know what look you end up trying for New Years! And shop the story below!

Miceller Water Cleansing Routine

Hope you all are ready for Christmas! I’m sure you will be spending the next few days grabbing last minute gifts, finishing decorating and wrapping everything, and if you are hosting,  prepping for the big party. Crazy stressful right? It’s so hard to juggle everything this time of year, stay balanced, and not lose your mind in the process. Plus the holiday season also demands that you always look glam and put together, which just adds another level of pressure! As much as I enjoy hair, makeup, and fun outfits, sometimes you just NEED a bare face and sweat pants. One way I stay sane and squeeze in self-care is to find an off night, or even an early evening, where I stay home and show my skin some extra TLC. Here are a few steps I take to get unready and pamper myself during the stressful holiday season.

Skin Care Routine with Miceller Water

Hover over the image above for product information and to purcahase at CVS

Aveeno Positively Radiant Beauty Products

The first thing to go is whatever sparkly, tight, layered thing I had on, kick off the heels and cozy up in a warm, fluffy bathrobe. Sometimes I’ll treat my hair to an overnight oil treatment for extra moisture, sleeping with it covered by a plastic cap and satin bonnet.

Then it’s time to get all the holiday makeup off! I’ve been using the Aveeno Positively Radiant Micellar Gel Cleanser. I love micellar cleansers as a first step in my getting unready routine, since they gently remove makeup without stripping the skin. Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Micellar Gel Cleanser is formulated with a moisture-rich soy and kiwi complex and it  helps skin feel hydrated, soft, and enhances your skin’s natural radiance. More than just a cleansing and moisturizing routine The AVEENO® POSITIVELY RADIANT® Collection is designed to enhance your natural radiance and give you a lit-from-within glow. Each soy enriched product targets tone and texture.

I also love using face masks, and do one at least once or twice a week. When you don’t have time to put one on then sit and wait, sleeping masks are perfect. Who wouldn’t want to put one on before bed and wake up glowing?

Aveeno Positively Radiant Max Glow Mask.jpg

Aveeno’s Maxglow No Mess Sleep Mask is a new one I’ve been testing out. This nighttime face mask helps even skin tone and texture for soft, luminous skin when you wake. Plus the tube includes a paddle applicator so that your hands stay clean for an easy, mess-free application. Then just rinse off in the morning for radiant, glowing skin. Don’t worry about it making a mess when you sleep, the mask will stay on your face and not end up all over your pillows. After I apply it, I like to tuck myself in, turn that phone on silent and spend some time reading or just reflecting on my day.  I think it’s important to unplug and not spend the last moments of your day staring at a phone screen.

Since this time of year doesn’t allow much time for personal shopping, the most convenient beauty destination to pick up these products is your local CVS. CVS is actually one of the largest beauty retailers in the United States, so it makes staying on top of your beauty needs easier than ever. Make sure you check out the AVEENO® POSITIVELY RADIANT® Collection  if you want to enhance your natural radiance and give you a lit-from-within glow.

And since saving money around the holidays is essential, make sure you take advantage of the Buy One Get 50% off Select Aveeno at CVS until 12/30. Wishing you all a happy, glowing holiday!

6 Ways to Practice Self-Care During the Holidays

Cozy At Home Holiday Season

Is anyone else starting to feel the holiday stress? I’ve had a CRAZY couple of weeks between travel, my day job, wrapping up holiday campaigns, securing new business for Q1, and my social life, which these days includes catching up with friends and prepping to host this Christmas. I have a post planned for managing it all without losing it, so look out for that next month, because I’m seriously trying to figure it out! November and December are pretty much the time where we are all going out more, spending more, eating more (and usually less healthy stuff) and sleeping less.

My friends always say I am pretty good about taking care of myself, and being selfish when need be, so I’m trying to remind myself of how I do that. Self-care is pretty buzzy these days, but it’s crucial to stay balanced and centered. When it feels like the world is pulling you a hundred different directions, you need to find time to take care of yourself. I’m not sure about “having it all” but here are a few ways I practice self-care during the holiday season.

Self Care Guide

Stay on top of your daily routine

We all have little things we do to start and end our day, but when schedules get crazy it’s hard to let that fall to the wayside. But don’t! When you get out of your flow that only makes things more intense, and it’s harder to get back into it once you’ve been off for awhile.

Know when to say no

Yes there are holiday parties every night, or friends or loved ones who want to catch up for dinner, or trips you could go, etc. It’s hard to RSVP no, but sometimes you just have to take care of yourself. Sleep in instead of going to brunch, catch a workout you love instead of a boozy night out, or just lay around in your coziest PJs as long as you need to. I have had days where getting out of bed was physically not an option, so I cancelled my day and took the time needed to rest. The next day I was infinitely better, and ready to get back on track. When you need to hit pause, just do it! Your loved ones will understand.

Don’t give into FOMO

Millennials are plagued by FOMO! However I’ve realized that when you need to skip social plans to take care of yourself or prioritize your to-do list, the fear of missing out can easily fade away. Just remember that you chose to be exactly where you are for reasons that were important to you. Plus, if you were out doing whatever it was that’s in the back of your mind you’d be having FOMO about missing your couch!

Take time for your health

Sometimes self-care means laying at home, taking a hot bath or indulging in some of your favorite comfort foods and a glass (or half-a bottle) of wine. Other times it means putting in work to get reenergized and ready to take on the challenges. One of the main ways I stay sane is my regular workouts. I get in at least 3, but usually 4 or 5 a week! No matter how busy I am or how gross the weather is, because I know that workout time is an investment in myself, my health, and my body. Of course there are days where dragging myself to the gym is the last thing I want to do, but when I get there I never regret it. But if I skip a workout I always have regret the next day. So whether it’s fitness, meditation, or just some gentle stretching while YouTube is on in the background, find something that will be your thing and make time for it on a regular basis.

Respect your budget

November and December are also times where there is increased pressure to spend, on shopping, gifts, and socializing. By October I pretty much know how much I’m going to spend between holiday shopping, stuff for myself, entertaining costs, and socializing. Then I FIRMLY stick to those numbers, and am never shy about saying I need to prioritize my budget when saying no to things. Keeping up with the Joneses needs to be a thing of the past and anyone in your life who cares about you would not pressure you to spend frivolously.  There should be absolutely no stigma about living within your means!

Protect Your Sleep

I can’t stress this enough! Protect your sleep as vigorously as you may need to, It is paramount to your overall health and well-being. I always make an effort to be in bed unwinding about 30 minutes before I need to actually be falling asleep. That means the alarm is set, phone silenced, and I’m reading a good book and finishing my nightcap (usually a bourbon neat – I’m not a tea person). If you can’t stand the thought of fully silencing your phone, at least dim your screen and turn on the blue-light fliter, which is easier on the eyes before you go to bed.

Let me know how you guys practice self-care through the craziness this time of year!

All that Glitters! Bringing the Sparkle for this Holiday Season!

Holiday Season in NYC

Sequins? For holiday? Groundbreaking!

Obviously we all know the holiday season is the time for glitz and glamour and to bring all your sparkle, but seriously! Why not bring ALL THE SPARKLE! It’s the only time of year you can get away with dressing this obnoxiously, so don’t worry about being restrained. Go all out now and save your basics for January. Blazer dresses were a major trend for Fall, and I’m still loving it now!  Mixing two trends can be frowned upon, this one somehow combines the blazer dress trend and the holiday sequins trend and makes it work.  I got it from Rent the Runway, which is my hero this time of year because my Unlimited membership keeps me covered for all the events and parties that pop up. If you have been on the fence about membership, I’ll be posting more about it in a few weeks, but depending on your social schedule this month you should consider taking advantage!

But back to this dress! It’s definitely one to keep all eyes on you, and I love the loose silhouette. It hides all the sins from holiday eating and you can dance all night in it. I paired it with a pair of thigh high boots because it’s just too chilly for tights and heels these days, but if it were just a bit warmer it would look great with high heeled booties as well.  I finished the look with equally glam makeup – a soft smoky eye and deep red lip.

If you are still looking for the perfect standout dresses for whatever your holiday season may bring, shop some of my faves below!

3 Ways to Spend Valentine's Day and What to Wear for Each!

Did you know Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays?  Other than having an excuse to get dressed up and eat candy, there is just something special about the spirit of love that’s in the air. Personally I think the holiday is just as fun if you are coupled up or single.

DSC00146.jpg

Whether you spend it with your significant other or group of besties, there are plenty of options for what to do, and of course what to wear.

DSC00130.jpg

Here are a few looks I love for whatever plans the holiday may bring!

Red Hot Date

If you’ve got an evening planned that calls for bombshell vibes, you can’t go wrong with a little red dress or bodycon number. Just make sure to wear a long coat and/or tights since it is still February and we don’t want anyone freezing!

For Girls Night Out (or in!)

If you and the squad are planning dinner or drinks out, go for something trendy and fun. I love a red on red ensemble, like a cozy sweater and slim fitting pants, or a fun jumpsuit or party dress.

 Hosting at Home

There’s also nothing wrong with keeping it a low-key night at home! Whether you are alone catching up on Netflix, or having some friends over for a low-key get together, chic loungewear is always in order.

My 2018 Style Resolutions

Images by AV Photography

Images by AV Photography

We’re about a week into the new year and since I don’t really make resolutions I’m not sweating my progress so far! One thing I do every year is set some new fashion and style goals that I hope will inspire me and keep my style updated. Here are my Style Resolutions for 2018!

New York Street Style

I still won’t dress my age

I’ve got a birthday coming up in a few months, and I’m not spilling the number because that ain’t ya business! Some would say it’s time for my fashion choices to grow up a little, but I will continue to wear things that inspire, excite, and reflect my spirit and who I am. So my go-to pieces, whether they be leather skinnies, oversized knits, or tiny crop-tops and anything backless will all remain in rotation

Winter Beauty Ideas

I will get more wear out of my wild, fun shoe collection

After spending years in footwear I’ve got a pretty impressive collection. But this year I found myself cycling in flat booties and Adidas kicks regularly, instead of one of the many pairs of high quality killer heels I own.  I guess I got stuck in a comfort rut! And while that is always key, I want to make sure I bring back some of my quirky, sexy heels into rotation.

I (might) wear less makeup on a daily

Makeup is a big part of my life, and I love my daily beat. It’s fun to try new looks and experiment creatively, but since my skin has gotten so much better, I feel like it’s time to adjust the routine. Maybe part of my 2018 style adventure will entail getting the world (and myself) reacquainted with my bare, or barely touched face.

All Black Winter Look

I’ll shop my closet more

Instead of giving into the tempatation of new goodies every season, I’ll find new ways to wear old favorites and make them feel fresh again. It will be a challenge to my creativity, but my wallet and the environment will thank me!

What are your style goals for 2018?
