3 Spring Décor Trends to Shop Now

Home Decor Inspiration

I’m nesting pretty bad these days! Since I’ll be in my new place in just a few short weeks I can’t stop looking at stylish home décor and pinning all my ideas! I’m trying to not too shop too much right now, since I still need to move and get accurate measurements of each space, so for now I’m just planning carefully and organizing my shopping lists. There are a few décor trends I’ve been really getting into so definitely will be working into new place after the move. Keep reading to see 3 of my top home décor trends that I’ll be incorporating into the new place!

Spring Decorating Trends

Luxe Bathroom Accessories

Self-care is everything these days, so I want to make sure I create a spa like experience at home. There are a few easy updates you can make to get that ambiance, even in a rental! I’m definitely going to be switching out the standard showerheads for a waterfall attachment and adding some removeable wallpaper in a glam print or color. I can’t go as feminine as I would like to because gotta keep the boy in mind, but I definitely want to add lots of soft textures with plush towels and a shaggy bathmat and vanity style lighting to glam it up!

Statement Lighting to Complete the Room

Lighting is an essential and I love going bold with floor and table lamps. Hudson Valley Lighting sent me the stunning Hurley lamp which I can’t wait to set up in my new living room. It features a luxe gold base and off-white silk shade that is timeless, classic, and perfectly glam! Considering the price tag it is definitely an investment piece, but one that will last for years and look stylish in your current home and any future one! Hudson Valley Lighting also operates the Mitzi brand, which is just as stylish and way more affordable.

If your apartment has pre-installed overhead lighting, check with your management if you can swap out the fixtures for something more stylish. As long as you store the original fixture safely and can replace it when you move out, you may be able to make the upgrade. If not think about changing the light bulbs to something softer and more serene.

Swing Chairs for a Bohemian Vibe

I’m not super boho with my taste, but I like having just a hint of it. I’ve been really into swing chairs, especially since installing a hammock in an apartment isn’t exactly practical! They just instantly give you a relaxed, summer vibe, that’s just a touch hippie chic. They are pretty trendy right now, so I wouldn’t splurge on one but there are plenty of options you can find for under $100.

If you are redecorating for Spring, make sure you check out Hudson Valley Lighting  for some high-end lighting inspo! And shop my round-up of stylish and affordable home upgrades below!

The Grown Woman's Guide to Festival Style

Festival Season Style Inspiration

Festival season is here! If you aren’t flying off to live your best life at Coachella, at least you can add some festival inspired style to your Spring wardrobe. Most of the festival trends are pretty out there, and hard to pull off if you aren’t a lanky twenty-something year old. I love the festival season trends and try to interpret them in a way that is easy and appropriate for the normal, everyday life of an average woman. Here are a few ways to get a festival inspired look for a grown woman life!

Festival Season Fashion Trends
Festival Hair and Makeup Ideas

 Try a Fun New Hairstyle

I’ve been rocking these DIY passion twists and they are all the rage! This look is probably one of the biggest natural hair trends I’ve seen this season, and they give you the perfect sophsticated bohemian guide. Check out my quick tutorial if you want to try to do it yourself, or find a salon that offers the style on Style Seat! They are so cute and can be styled long and loose or in fun, oversized buns and updos. I also love playing with different cornrow styles, and the easiest way to spice up your look is throwing on a cute wig! Whether in a bold color or new curl pattern, you can experiement with your look each season without compromising the health of your natural hair.

Go Bolder with Makeup

Spring makeup can be very fresh faced, dewy, soft and romantic. When going to a festival inspired look, you definitely need to take it up a notch! Think about more intense shimmer or even glitters for your going out looks, and bold lip color like neon orange or hot pink. I also love layering on highlighter in shades of pink, champagne, or even purple! If your outfit is on the simpler side, a bolder makeup look is a great way to make a statement.

Update Some Go-To Pieces in Your Wardrobe

Festival style is fun, so just pick a few key pieces that hit some of the trends to get the look! Think fringe, crochet, and bohemian patterns in clothing, block heel booties with Western flair, and plenty of accessories.  These are some of my favorite pieces that subtly hit the festival trend, while still being appropriate for every day adult life!

Let me know what festivals you’ll be heading to this Spring and Summer, and of course what you’ll be wearing!

6 Ways to Get Ready for Spring

Birthday Celebration

April is the best month! Not just because it’s my birthday month, although that’s a good part of the reason why! Spring is in the air, the city starts waking up, and flowers start blossoming everywhere you look. Here are a few ways I get ready for my birthday and to kick off the Spring season!

6 ways to get ready for Spring

If You Haven’t Already, File Your Taxes!

You know what time it is! 2019 taxes are due April 15th this year, so don’t mess around! I usually do them in March because it takes a while to get all my paperwork from assorted blog campaigns together to file. I also like filing in March because I usually get my refund right around my birthday, so it’s always a nice little treat! Obviously I save the majority of it, but I do leave a little bit for me to plan something fun. Which brings me to my next point . . .

Schedule Your Spring Beauty Treatments

There are a lot of treatments I do on a regular basis to keep things in check! Laser hair removal is a big one, and you need to get those touch ups before summer so you don’t risk discoloration due to sun exposure. I always get my touch-ups in April so I have plenty of time to heal and protect my skin before sundress/bikini season kicks off.

I’m not big on facials, but I do indulge them occasionally. Chemical peels are my preferred choice, and I always get them from a dermatologist, NOT a day spa. Not knocking spas as they can be an amazing experience, but when it comes to strong chemicals being applied to my face with the goal of actually burning off the top layer of skin, I want that administered by a licensed medical professional! My go to dermatologist in the city is Dr. Carlos Charles at Derma di Colore, who has been keeping my skin glowing for years. I also love Dr. Sinha at Pearlman Aesthetic Surgery!

I definitely prefer massages to facials, so I make it a point to get one every year the week of my birthday. I actually get them every 3 or 4 months, but usually they are pretty intense massages, aimed at working out tension and helping me recover from my strength building workouts. The birthday massage is designed to be a relaxing one, that just lets me get pampered!

Plan a Party or Social Event

I usually have multiple events the week of my birthday because, well why not! I’m so lucky to have a lot of friends and any excuse to get them all together and eat cake and pop champagne is much appreciated. I made my reservations for brunch and dinner a few weeks ago, so just putting the finishing touches on some small details. If you don’t like planning birthdays or have a group of friends that would love to plan it for you, definitely take advantage! I just tend to take matters into my own hands when it comes to the birthday, and my friends usually love what I come up with so the trend just stuck. This year will be way more low-key than last year’s pajama party, since I’m super busy, but I’m so excited! The next thing to do is take advantage of my Rent the Runway birthday rental and pick out an amazing look! Did you know you get a free birthday rental with an RTR Pro membership? Check out their site for more details!

Try a New Hair Style

New season, new look right? I start playing with my hair more for Spring and Summer, trying out lighter colors, playing with more fun wigs, or trying trendy braided styles. The energy of the season just lends itself to experimenting with a new look! I’m going to be testing out the new passion twists that are all the rage, so stay tuned to my Instagram to see how this look turns out!

Clean out Your Closet for Spring

It’s time to transition your wardrobe from winter to Spring, and before you can take advantage of all the Spring sales, you’ve got to make room in your closet for the new additions! I always go through my closet and audit everything that needs to go and decide whether to sell it on Poshmark or one of the resale stores like Crossroads or donate it to Goodwill. I also usually pull out a few pieces that I want to keep but need some extra love, like fixing minor tears, treating stains, getting shoes polished, etc. Once you know what you are keeping for the new season, you can carefully shop around to round out your looks and options!

Plan a Summer Trip

Give yourself something to look forward to! Summer is a great time to travel, and if you want to find a deal now is the time to start looking. Coordinate with your friends or significant other on a dream destination or affordable little weekends. If you aren’t sure where to go, sign up for fare sale alerts and emails on most of the big booking sites. They will let you know about flash sales and discounted travel that will help give you ideas to start planning!

3 Spring Beauty Trends To Try Now

Pink makeup trends for spring
glam makeup trends for spring
makeup trends to try for Spring

It’s almost the first day of Spring!

Even though I haven’t done much shopping, I’m thinking more about freshening up my makeup routine for the new season. I’ll be playing with more color, soft neutrals with a romantic touch, and going with more natural glam looks for every day. Here are a few trends I’m working into my beauty rotation

Natural Eyelashes

I loooove falsh eyelashes and my favorite pairs are on the dramatic side. However I’ve been toning them down lately and wearing them less. I still get a flirty feminine look from layering on mascara carefully, scraping off excess product along the tube before each coat so it doesn’t clump. But it is kind of refreshing playing with a more natural, fresh faced look.

Monochromatic Makeup

Monochromtic dressing has been a fashion staple for awhile, so why not copy the same trend in your makeup. I love layering varying shades of soft pink between eyes, cheeks, and lips. Pop in some gold or champagne highlighter to round out the look and add a soft glow.

Neon Lips

I love rocking bold color, but the hues that I’m getting excited about our over the top. Keep them matte since a neon gloss will start to look costumey. And keep the application perfectly precise! The last thing you want is neon smeared all over your face. Use a brush to keep the edges clean and use concealor and powder to set the area around your lips and keep the color in place.

Your Spring Accessories Guide

Spring Accessories Guide

Happy early Spring! I've been busy updating my wardrobe to transition to the new season, plus thinking of fun ways to transition some of my favorite pieces as the weather changes. But as you focus so much on fun new clothes, you can't forget your accessories! That is probably one of the most cost-efficient ways to breath new life into your wardrobe each season. Whether it's new gems, shoes, bags, or all, check out some of my fave accessories to add to cart this season!

IMG_8707.jpg

Scarves

A chic scarf is a great topper for the most basic look. Elevate a simple sundress or classic jeans and tee with a colorful or graphic printed baby. I also love wrapping my hair up in one on bad hair days or when I just don't feel like dealing with my curls. You can go high-end if you want, or just anythng cheap and cheerful to take your look up a notch.

And you can't forget the oversized earrings! They make even the most simple look special, and make your lazy buns or ponytails instant chic. Just choose carefully, you want styles that bring all the drama without being too heavy.

Black Leather Boots

Booties

You can never go wrong with a basic black pair. These are from Thursdays and they are amazing! You can start to lighten up your boot wardrobe with cut-out or peep-toe options in lighter, more breathable fabrics.

Cat Eye Sunglasses Trend

Sunnies

So everyone has been into the tiny sunglasses trend. I tried it and am really not a fan! So I'll be sticking to my oversized shapes in classic colors. I love retro-cat eyes and oversized round frames, usually in soft colors that flatter my skin tone. Here are a few in my rotaton.

3 Spring Trends You Need Now!

Well it took a while, but Spring is finally here! I’ve been putting off my shopping until I could actually wear the goodies I was buying and now it’s finally time! I tend to live by my own personal style more than I follow trends, but there are a few that I’m pretty excited about for the season. You got a little preview in the video above, and check them out in more detail!

Maxi Dress and Leather Jacket

Maxi Dresses

If you want easy comfortable glamour, a maxi dress is the way to go! It feels like you are basically wearing pajamas, but you look super chic. Plus they can be great on their own with no styling, or you can add a layer to finish the look. Since this dress is so feminine and delicate I like the contrast of adding a tough girl moto jacket and black leather booties. As it gets hotter you can lighten up the look with sandals, and either no jacket or a lightweight vest.

Graphic T Shirt and Scarf Spring Layers

Layers

You usually hear about layering for Fall, but some Spring days can be cooler and windy so you need a bit more coverage. I like pairing a graphic T with a lightweight jacket, and taking the look up a notch with a scarf.  Depending on the weather that day, you can rock this look with jeans like in the photo, or denim cutoffs like I did in the video

IMG_8587.jpg

Crop Tops & Mom Jeans

I pretty much never met a crop top I didn’t like. A lot of people think they can be too sexy or revealing for them, but there are crop tops for every body type. If you want to make the look more playful, pair it with something oversized, like these high waisted mom jeans. They give you instant cool girl cred and you don’t have to worry about the look being too revealing!

April Showers, Spring Layers

Spring Rainy Day Style

Spring came, then went in a day!

Last Saturday was an incredible 70 degrees and sunny, only to descend back into the 40’s the next day! This weather is really keeping me on the struggle bus. Between the extreme dips in temperature, the clouds and rain it really is both a mood and wardrobe killer! I can’t stand to wear my Fall/Winter wardrobe anymore, and have been trying to creatively transition out of my winter sweaters and work in some of the cute Spring trends. It’s too cold to just wear any of my favorite Spring pieces without layers!

Froze for this shot for a minute though!

Froze for this shot for a minute though!

I’ve been feeling polka dots this season, so had my eye on this super cute jumpsuit from Macy’s. It’s a lightweight fabric, open back (another one of my favorites) and the pants are just a little bit flowy so it’s so easy to wear. Plus white is one of my go-to colors for Spring/Summer so it was the perfect find. However since the weather won’t let me be great, I had to top it with my favorite leather moto jacket to warm up. I’ll have to wait until summer to show off the pretty open back detail.

And even though this jumpsuit is begging to be paired with a cutout sandal or chunky 2 piece heel, the forecast called for clouds and drizzles so I went with sneakers instead. At least a bright floral umbrella is giving me some Spring vibes!

4 Perfect Picks for a Spring Getaway!

Cozy Knit Cardigan.jpg

Spring is starting to bloom and one of the things I'm most excited about is Spring travel! Winter travel is fun, but can be so unreliable and downright annoying between the frigid temperatures and massive amount of snow we've been getting. Spring means longer days, a little bit more sun, and easier packing since you don't need as many heavy sweaters and boots.

TravelStyle.jpg

If you are itching for a Spring getaway, here are a few of my favorite places that are perfect for an easy long weekend!

Nico+Schinco+-+Scribners+Lodge-26.jpg

The Catskills

This area is a go to destination for most New Yorkers, for good reason! It's close and easy to get to and full of beautiful scenery pretty much anytime of year. Stay somewhere super hip like Scribners Lodge, and leave plenty of time for everything from scenic hikes to wine tasting.

Cartagena .jpg

Cartagena

It seems farther than it really is, but in a quick 5 hour flight you'll be in one of the most beautiful, charming city I've ever seen. I've been twice, and each time it didn't disappoint. Plus by the time April starts to roll around I'm pretty much dying for some beach time, so the location is just perfect!

Rome Sunsets.jpg

Italy

Flights into most major cities are easy to be found, and you'll beat peak tourist season by going this time of year. I don't love the beaches or coastal cities in Spring, but Florence, Rome, Tuscany, and Milan are all great options for a getaway.

Bermuda Pink Sand Beach.jpg

Bermuda

If the islands are your thing, Bermuda is the best choice for a long weekend trip. It's a smooth 90 minute flight to pink sand beaches and charming colorful scenery. It can be a little pricey, so try to look out for deals that will make it more affordable.

Let me know if you are planning a Spring vacation and where you end up going!

Statement Jeans for Spring

Hello guys!

Technically it's the first day of Spring, but NYC is about to get another big dump of snow! I'm completely and 100% over it, just trying to do the best to get through. Since I'm trying not letting the weather get me down and crush my style, I decided to break out these all eyes on me jeans. I love a pair of mom jeans, and they are even better with embellishments!

The Highline New York

These are from Topshop and I was on the fence when I first bought them, but slowly fell in love. The light wash is super retro, and the rhinestone trim is the exact touch they need to make them pop. I especially love that they didn't skim on the details in the back, keeping the bling cute on both sides.  They seem pretty high maintenance and I still haven't figured out how I'm going to wash them TBH. But the look is worth it, even if I only break them out every once in awhile.

The Highline New York

I rocked these with a cropped tee and classic black pumps, just to balance out the loose fit of the jeans, but they'd be equally cute with a simple tank and white sneakers.

Unfortunately these babies are sold out. However you can shop similar items to get the look below!

Pretty in Polka Dots!

NYC Streetstyle ChinaTown.jpg

Hope all my New Yorkers enjoyed yesterday's snow storm! It's almost comical to talk about getting ready for Spring at this point, but I kind of am anyway, so bear with me! And anyway, hopefully this helps inspire you to think about the days to come in a few weeks when you won't be bundling up to face a blizzard!

Street Style China Town.jpg

But seriously, we got a taste of Spring like weather recently, and it will be coming back in a few weeks, so if your wardrobe isn't ready, now is the time to start thinking about it. I usually avoid shopping until we are closer to the season, and even though this slip dress borders on summery,  I decided to grab it now because it would definitely sell out! The silhouette is mod, and flattering, and it's just the perfect cute dress for so many occasions.

Chinatown Street Style Shoot.jpg

Since it's still on the chilly side, I had to style it a bit to keep from freezing. I got these amazing thigh high boots at Crossroads Trading Co. I go there every couple of months to sell off old clothes and trade them in for new goodies. I posted about the visit on my Insta-story, so stay tuned to that for deets on my next visit. Since I can't link to the same style, I posted similar styles below. And I addd my go to quilted moto jacket that I've had for ages. It's Zara and I swear it looks better the older it gets.

Looks You Need: The White Floral Kimono

I'm officially in the swing of late Spring dressing! The weather is warm but not obnoxiously hot, and the days are long, sunny, and beautiful. So what do I wear for these perfect days in the city?

KImono portrait spring

I love a good maxi dress.  The long, flowing silhouette is perfect for making a statement in a more low key way. Today's look is by Privacy Please, one of my favorite brands that I usually buy on Revolve, but I actually rented this from Rent the Runway. I've been slacking on pulling out my spring summer clothes and haven't shopped for the new season yet, so decided to take advantage of an RTR special - rent one get 2 free! I didn't have anything planned when I decided to rent, but you can be sure I filled my calendar before these dresses arrived!

highline nyc portrait

It's a nice, weighty fabric that feels super luxe, and the delicate floral print gives it a nice romantic vibe. It was a little too loose and low cut in the bust, which seemed like a recipe for disaster, so I layered a blush lace bralette underneath.

camel suede booties

Since the weather is still too weird for open toes and I wanted to ground the floaty nature of the dress, I paired it with block heel suede ankle boots from Steve Madden.

And even if you aren't a big renter, get on the Rent the Runway email list so you don't miss their amazing deals. They have a great mix of special occasion and stylish every day options, so you can slay every event from cocktail parties to Sunday brunch. Stay tuned for how I rocked the other dresses I rented in that amazing buy one get 2 deal!

Because Bodycon Dresses Never Get Old

Images by Thomas Graff

Images by Thomas Graff

Say what you want about body con dresses, but I never got over this silhouette. I'm pretty petite but still have some curves and I love figure flattering dresses that show off my frame. Volume is a huge trend this season, but I've been going hard in my sweat sessions and deserve to show off the results!

I picked up this dress while I was wandering through Lord & Taylor killing time between leaving work and meeting friends for dinner. It's actually from Kendall & Kylie's line, which however you may feel about those sisters, some of the items in their collection are actually pretty cute! I immediately liked the high neck and neutral color, and the black panels on the outside are perfect for making you appear slimmer. The nude tone pretty much a perfect match for my skin tone which amps up the naked vibes and sex appeal. To tone it down, I layered one of my favorite jackets over it, a black honeycomb knit bomber from Ivy Park

The bomber also had another function - covering up the weird boob triangles on the dress. I'm not sure why they thought those were a good feature to include, and they actually don't look too bad on the pictures online. But once I tried the dress on they were definitely not doing me any favors.

To finish the look, I paired the dress with my badass Jimmy Choo leather booties, but this might go well with sneakers for a low-key sporty vibe. I get nervous about rocking super tight dresses without heels because I'm so short, but I love the idea of it, so may try it out next time I feel like experimenting.

What are your go-to silhouettes for Spring? Are you going to be sticking to body con styles or getting on the high volume bandwagon?

When Spring Starts Popping

Images by Thomas Graff

Images by Thomas Graff

Spring vibes are finally here, hopefully to stay! The slightly warmer temperatures and extra hour of sunshine are really getting me ready for my favorite Spring activities and of course outfits. When the weather gets sunnier, so does my wardrobe. Bright colors and silky, breezy fabrics are my go to, so you can see why I fell in love with this dress!

This dress is Topshop Unique and it definitely fits the name! The design is super feminine and vintage inspired, with the midi length and high funnel neck. The side-cut out adds just a hint of sex appeal and shows off the obliques I've been working to sculpt

I paired it with my favorite nude Louboutins to play up the classic silhouette, but you could also style it with a pair of Adidas and a bomber or moto jacket for a sporty look. And since the color was so popping I decided to be even more extra and finish the look with a red lip. I was kind of inspired by Michelle Williams 2006 Oscars look, which is so legendary the saffron Vera Wang dress has its own Wikipedia page

This dress unfortunately was such a hit it's sold out online, but hit up your local Topshop store to get your hands on it! Or go for one of the tops that have the same classic high neckline and sexy cut out detail. If the saffron color is what you're lusting after, Topshop also has a few other pieces in that gorgeous hue

Who else is looking forward to a new season? Let me know your tips for getting in the mood for Spring!

Introducing Greenery, the It Shade of 2017

And the color of the year is . . . Greenery. Pantone describes this shade as refreshing, revitalizing, and symbolic of new beginnings. It's much more energetic than last years tranquil Rose Quartz. Green has never really been my color, but I love the fresh, spring vibe it gives off. I'm imagining this shade woven into white and yellow printed sundresses, tassels and fringe on accessories, and maybe, for my daring days, makeup.

This color will be everywhere come January If you can't wait to shop the trend, check out these items that already have 2017's signature hue!
