The dog days of winter have me dying for a tropical vacation. Thank the fashion gods for creating resort collections, so even if you’re not jetting off to some exotic locale, you can still have some inspiration for next season. Whether you are heading off to cruise the French Riviera or relaxing on the beaches of Tulum, or just sitting at home avoiding the cold and fantasizing about such a trip, here are the trends that should stay top of mind.

1.       Palm Frond Prints

This cheery print is the new floral. Seen at Rochas, Valentino and Pucci, the green is a perfect way to tie in Pantone’s Color of the Year to your look.

2.       Tartan

While this print is usually reserved for Fall/Winter, it began popping up on the runways at Chanel, Gucci, and Rosie Assoulin. Instead of wearing it in cashmere, wool, or other wintery textures, try it in silk or lightweight cotton poplin for an easy breezy, sophisticated look.

3.       Ruffles

Ruffles are loads of fun, and will be appearing on everything from skirts to tops this season. Peter Pilotto, Louis Vuitton, and Norma Kamali all showed different variations on the trend, but it can be sweet, romantic, and dramatic all at once, depending on how you style it.

4.       Athleisure

The athleisure trend is still going strong. Givenchy, Fendi, and even Tory Burch made a statement with sporty chic looks in their collections. The Adidas classic track pant is now a coveted fashion item, and an affordable one at that, so grab a few pairs to rock with crop-tops and sandals all season long.

5.       Crochet

Crochet is all the rage, and not just among the Coachella set. The pattern appeared on the runway at Oscar de la Renta, Max Azria, Moschino in luxurious fabrications, but you can always find it at your favorite fast fashion shops, or even DIY it if you are feeling crafty.

6.       Buckles Everywhere

Bold buckled belts somehow came back into fashion. The iconic Gucci logo belt is all over your Instagram feed, and waists were cinched all over the runways, including at Calvin Klein and Missoni. Try adding an oversized one over all your floaty sundresses to add a bit of edge to a casual, romantic look.

7.       Cropped Flares

We obsessed over these for Fall and they were the perfect companion for all our favorite ankle boots. Cropped flare hems are still super popular and not just in denim. Versace, Rachel Zoe, and Cinq a Sept all showed 70s inspired versions of cropped flares, and they’ll be popping up in your favorite stores in tons of vacation ready prints and fabrics.

8.       Dressy Denim

Denim is a classic staple, but this resort it gets a little dressed up. Adam Lippes and Kate Spade showed tailored shifts and ruffled or pleated skirts in denim, a refined but not stuffy way to wear the fabric.

9.       Blush & White

This will be the key color palette for resort, and it’s easy to see why.  Wear each individually or together for a soft romantic look perfect for long days and balmy nights.  Narciso Rodriguez, Delpozo and Milly showed gorgeous blushing looks and both colors are flattering on all skin tones.

10.   Layers

It’s hard to pull off layers when dressing for a warm weather location, so keep each piece light and breezy. Try dresses over pants, bralettes over a t-shirt, and of course, a breezy scarf on top of everything.

What resort trends are you most excited to try?
