Beauty and Wellness Rite Aid Spring.jpeg

I know I’m not the only one who is completely over winter! It’s been pretty freezing the past few weeks in NY and the weather is really putting a damper on my social life. I’ve been trying to make the most of spending more time indoors waiting until winter passes, so that means lots of Netflix and Hulu, a few new good reads, and of course, my at home beauty treatments. Relaxation time is so important, especially after the hectic holiday season. After all of those weeks taking care of everyone else, it’s time to turn your focus back to yourself. If you want to indulge in a little self-care when it’s too cold to be out doing anything else, here is my routine for a quick and easy cozy spa night at home.

Biore MIceller Water.jpeg
I start by cleansing my skin and doing a treatment mask. Biore® Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water is a great way to take off makeup and deep cleanse your skin before you apply the mask. It’s an all-in-one cleanser and makeup remover, so there is no need for rinsing or rubbing. It removes even heavy make-up while refreshing and balancing your pores, and the charcoal formula is great for oily skin.
Biore Charcoal Mask
Once all my makeup is removed, I apply the Biore® Charcoal Self Heating One Minute Mask. A thermal mask is perfect for a night where you need to warm up and melt away your stress. It’s infused with natural charcoal, and opens pores and draws out dirt, then finishes with a cooling sensation for tingly-smooth skin in just one minute. I follow with my favorite moisturizer and eye cream, and then move onto hair!
John Freida Frizz Ease Serum
My curls can get insanely dry and frizzy, so keeping them strong and hydrated is essential. I’ve been loving the John Frieda® Frizz Ease® Extra Strength 6 Effects™+ Serum. This tiny bottle packs a powerhouse serum that eliminates frizz, prevents damage from heat styling, repels humidity, smooths strands, hydrates parched hair, and tames flyaways. I like to add a few drops to my hair after washing and deep conditioning to create a foundation for frizz free styling all week. You can also use a small amount of product on the ends of dry hair to refresh your look and help smooth away any frizz.

Now just grab a cozy knit throw blanket and turn on a movie for the perfect way to end a night of pampering. After nights like these I feel completely rejuvenated.

3 Tips to Slay Your Winter Style!

Images by Ten Aldane

Does it feel like winter will never end? It's only January so we've got a few more weeks (ok fine more than a few) of chilly temps before we can finally celebrate Spring. Winter style can be a challenge, trying to stay fashionable without putting yourself at risk for hypothermia.

Here are just a few of my tips for slaying the winter season!

1. Layer smartly

I'm a huge fan of Uniqlo's HEATTECH collection.  The smart fabric keeps you warm and toasty without adding bulk. They have everything from tanks, long-sleeve T's, tights and leggings for men and women so start building a collection!

2. Splurge on good boots and gloves.

You have on multiple layers on your body but only one on your hands so make it a good one. I love anything cashmere lined and touch screen fingers are a must. My go to boots are Sorel, they are amazing quality and pretty much as stylish as snow boots can get.

3. Top it off!

Never leave home without a hat! You need it to keep warm and protect your strands. I usually protective style through winter with wigs to keep my natural curls safe from damage, breakage and dryness. But however you wear your hair, make sure your head and ears stay covered. Use the opportunity to finish the look with a can't miss me hat!

How do you guys keep your style on point when the temps are brutal? Or do you just say screw it and wait for Spring?

Well January is halfway over! Hopefully it will start to feel like Spring soon enough, but we're still in for a few more weeks of chilly temps and maybe more snow! I've been tweaking my beauty routine to focus on keeping my skin moisturized and glowing and my hair healthy in this trying weather. Here are some new products that have been in rotation

aquation lotion.jpeg

Aquation Daily Moisturizing Lotion

This lotion is a steal at only $9 and provides even better hydration that products that go for triple it's retail price. It's rich, but not greasy and keeps your skin nice and protected. I got this complimentary in my Influenster VoxBox to review, and will definitely keep this in rotation all season long.

Jack Black Lip Balm

Jack Black Natural Mint Lip Balm

I think this is a men's line, but who cares! It's super moisturizing, especially when you love long wearing liquid lipsticks like my signature blue! Plus the minty flavor is nice and refreshing and the SPF25 means you can keep using this through summer.

Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo

This was another product sent to me complimentary from Influenster. I was a little skeptical about trying this, but was actually pleasantly surprised. I usually protective style through the winter months, and this def came in handy when I wanted to refresh my hair, without a full on shampoo and detangling session.

Baby Foot Peel

This foot peel is disgusting but the best way to get your feet sandal ready. The amount of skin you will shed is horrific, so you need to do it in January or February while you can still wear socks and boots every day. But after the treatment runs its course, you'll be left with brand new, callous free, baby smooth feet!

What are some of your tips and go to products for slaying through the harsh winter?

A Lesson In Layering

The season is barely halfway over but I'm already feeling completely over my winter wardrobe. We've got at least 2 more months of blistery temperatures, but I can't bring myself to buy new sweaters at this point, since my eyes are so set on the new Spring arrivals starting to hit stores.

In the spirit of keeping to my resolution to shop my closet more, I decided to start playing with layering ideas to get some of my Spring items into the rotation. I pulled out this sexy lace slip dress from Nicole Miller, and added a classic Gap t-shirt underneath. With a chunky cardigan, tights, and booties the look becomes a perfect option for chilly January days.

I also added this awesome wraparound choker from Intuition LA. You guys know I love that site for all their fashion forward and affordable accessories. I tied the long choker into a dramatic bow to play up the feminine vibe of the dress, but you can keep it simple and let the ends hang low.

Hopefully I can continue to channel my creativity to stay stylish and keep my credit cards happy until it's time for a Spring wardrobe refresh!

All Black Everything

All Black Winter Fashion 1

Even though I love winter whites, an all black look is a New York girl's style staple, no matter the season. When the temps cool down, I go for rich, luxe materials and some of my favorites are cashmere, wool, and velvet, so you can see why I'm obsessed with this look. It's come, cozy, and a little bit sexy.

What are some of your go to winter outfits?

Statement Coats are a Major Winter Style Key

Winter weather demands staying warm, so you may as well do it in style! I love a coat that makes a statement, especially because that is the main thing people see when you are out and about. When the temps drop, the coat makes the outfit. I love this classic hounds-tooth, updated in a navy, aqua, black and white color palette.
