5 Easy Ways to Transition Your Style from Summer to Fall

Can you believe summer is halfway over! I for one have been making up for lost time - hitting the streets, rooftop bars, pool parties and beaches with a newfound appreciation for summer fun. After the summer of quarantine in 2020 it feels like it’s time to soak up all the moments while we can, because you never know when the next lockdown will be!

It’s hard to believe we’ll be transitioning into Fall in the next month or so. My wardrobe definitely needed some updating after spending the better part of a year and a half in the house! But I am being more conservative with how I shop and how I spend, and making sure I can get decent mileage out of the items I buy.

If you are trying to keep your wardrobe relevant each season without spending a ton on new stuff every few months, keep reading for 5 ways to transition your summer favorites to make them perfect for Fall!

5 Easy Ways to Transition Your Style

from Summer to Fall

  1. Layers are your friend

  1. The easiest way to make a summer dress work for Fall is to pile on the layers. You take an easy summer sundress and top it with a denim jacket or cropped leather moto jacket and bring a whole new seasonal vibe to the look. You can even work in scarves - silky ones when it’s still warm out then thicker styles , like wool and cashmere as the temperatures drop.

  2. Don’t neglect your accessories

The right accessories can completely change an outfit. It can take a classic casual look to the next level, or make a fancy dress low key cool. If you are trying to figure out ways to transition your summer favorites to fall, don’t forget your accessories. Keep your favorite summer bags and baubles in rotation, pairing them with fall essentials like jeans and a crisp white button down. It will be an unexpected touch and an easy way to keep the summer vibe going as temperatures cool off.

  3. Yes, You Can Wear Pants and a Dress

Don’t be afraid to experiment with fashion! The slip dress is a summer staple, and one of the some of the most genius styling hacks I’ve seen on TikTok involve creative ways to style them. Why not tuck a summery slip dress into jeans and wear it like a camisole? Or pair a dress with dramatic side splits with a pair of leather skinnies and boots? Get creative with how you style and of course have fun!

  4. Booties, Booties Rocking Everywhere

Booties are a fall staple, but you don’t have to wait until late September to wear them! Style them with your summer sundresses to keep rocking your favorites into the next season. I love ankle boots and Western inspired styles paired with a boho sundress and jean jacket.

  5. Tone Down the Summer Colors and Prints

I love going bright and bold for summer, but as you are getting ready to transition to Fall, it’s time to start thinking about ways to tone it down. Stash away your tropical prints and anything that is peak summer; focus on the pastels, solids or more subdued florals to make the look work for Fall.

16 Outfit Ideas You Need for Every Wedding This Season

Are you ready for wedding season?

I know I’m not the only one who is ECSTATIC to have a normal summer again. We have all been through so much in 2020, and it is such a relief to feel like things are finally getting back to normal. I went to a wedding a few weekends ago, and it was an insanely good time! Weddings will probably look pretty different this season, but the opportunity to step out in style will remain the same!

I rounded up some of my favorite wedding guest dresses for any type of occasion. Whether it’s a glam black tie affair or a boho wedding on the beach, you’re sure to be the best dressed guest! and the best part? Most of these are under $150!

Wedding Guest Outfit Ideas

Wedding Guest Dresses for a Black Tie Affair

I can’t resist a black-tie invite. Any opportunity to get in full glam is a win for me, especially if I also get to see my husband in a tux! A lot of people dread black-tie weddings because they tend to be more formal, and a black-tie dress code is going to be a lot more expensive than a casual affair.

But with some careful sleuthing you can still find a stunning black tie look for a great price. I’m obsessed with this sunset orange maxi dress, and you can never go wrong with a tuxedo inspired look. Or go classic in a black maxi, or fun and sexy with this 20’s inspired beaded dress. The most expensive one of these is still only $160, so what are you waiting for!

Wedding Guest Dresses for a Garden Party Wedding

Who doesn’t love a garden party!? There is a casual elegance that is hard to resist, and the comfort factor is key! Heels won’t be necessary, but a soft romantic dress definitely is. This is also the easiest dress code to decipher – just think sundress, sandals or wedges and a fun accessory, like a straw clutch or tasteful wide-brimmed hat (nothing that will be blocking people’s view of the ceremony please!).

I love this pink tiered ruffled number, and the green halter just screams lawn games and rose! And the best part? All of these garden party wedding dress ideas are all under $60!

Classic Wedding Guest Outfit Ideas

Classic wedding attire may seem the most boring, but at least it’s the most versatile. These are the kind of dresses you probably already have in your closet or if you don’t you’ve been meaning to buy. Think a classic black sheath dress, midi dress in a universally flattering color, and of course, a silk or satin evening gown. Simply can’t go wrong!

You might need to spend a little more for a classic wedding look, but you’ll be able to wear it for multiple occasions, and a timeless classic will never go out of style.

Wedding Guest Outfits for a Beach Wedding

Beach weddings are another favorite of mine. The setting can’t be beat and I love the relaxed, low-key vacation vibes. Keep that energy going in a flowing dress with flat sandals, and a sun hat in tow. You can wear any color from island green to baby blue, just keep the look relaxed and unfussy.

This subtle tie-dye maxi or lime green ruffle dress will have all eyes on you, or go more subdued in a summer ready black floral dress of classic blush dress with a tasteful cutout.

Which one of these is your fave? Let me know in the comments as well as how many weddings you plan to attend this season!

The Perfect Slip Dress

blush pink slip dress

Every girl needs a collection of slip dresses. I have several in a mix of different patterns and solids and they never let me down! They are such a classic wardrobe staple and work for pretty much anything your schedule calls for. Last minute meeting or zoom? Throw on a slip dress and a blazer. Running errands then popping into brunch? Grab a slip dress and some sneakers. The possibilities are endless! I love this soft printed blush dress since it’s so versatile, and has a special romantic feel. We aren’t going out much these days, but this is perfect for our occasional dinner at an outdoor restaurant.  Plus it’s under $100 so definitely a steal!

The Sassy Mini Dress

entertaining in style at home

This dress is the perfect mini for those summer days and nights. It works perfectly with dad sneakers and a denim jacket for a casual look. Or you can dress it up with some strappy heels for a sexy evening outfit.  The material is also a great quality and has a nice thickness to it so it feels much more expensive, and the color just can’t be beat! It’s fun and sassy with a nice youthful vibe, but high quality enough to be appropriate for a woman in her 30’s like me.

The Flirty Crochet Dress

This dress is a boho girl’s dream! It comes in black and ivory and is a great little number for your summer wardrobe. I’ll be wearing this for our at home date nights as well as socially distant beach days. Add some layers of delicate gold jewelry and fringe flat sandals to complete the look. You can also top it with a denim jacket or a stylish kimono to take the look up a notch.

The Glam Maxi Dress

glam blue maxi dress

Maxi dresses are the perfect way to look casually glam and sophisticated. This tie-dye maxi is so unique and a great one for the summer rotation. The cutaway sides and back detail are super sexy and add a nice unexpected touch. And since tie-dye was the biggest trend to come out of quarantine, this is a glam way to get that look without attempting it yourself! It will be a long time before I’ll have any evening events to go to, but this would be perfect for entertaining at home.
