Spotlight on Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia

I've always been a fan of Australian fashion. Some of the most exciting, edgy, and just downright cool designs originate down under. From sexy sporty swimwear to otherworldly glam bridal, Australian designers have a certain eye, that unfortunately has not always gotten a lot of buzz. MBFWA was started to highlight some of the innovative designers popping up all over Australia, and give their collections a chance to shine on the global stage. Now the fashion world sees Australia less as an afterthought or a destination for trendy bikinis, but as a major player in the global fashion circuit. Here are some of my picks for standout looks, and the designers I'll be keeping my eye on.

Romanticism ruled at We Are Kindred. Soft, floaty dresses in subdued florals like these perfectly captured the title of their show, "Stealing Beauty"

Athleisure is still boss, and PE Nation showed so many fun, flirty, and slightly polished ways to wear this year's breakout trend

Power dressing for the new generation. The Star Wars reference throughout the Kitx show added touches of drama to styling that was at once gentle and bold.

We've been seeing volume all Spring and it looks like it will be continuing next year. Biana Spender worked huge swaths of fabric into skirts, dresses, and blouses for an amazing, dramatic effect.

If you're dying to nail the Aussie look, plenty of the country's favorite fashion e-tailers ship worldwide, for those brave enough to take their chances with import taxes.
